Description

The waters of Lake Maggiore sparkle in the sun, couples stroll through the Piazza Grande and palm trees grow on the lakeside promenade: staying in Ticino, it’s easy to forget you’re still in Switzerland. On this tour, you’ll discover one of Switzerland’s longest valleys and visit Ticino’s capital, the medieval town of Bellinzona. You’ll discover many facets of Switzerland’s southernmost canton: near Lake Maggiore, the landscape is charming and tender; in Ticino’s Maggia Valley, it’s wild and provocative. But whichever way you look at it, Ticino and its Lake Maggiore will captivate you!

Losone is a charming little town in the canton of Ticino, in southern Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Surrounded by mountains and hills, it offers an ideal setting for a cycling trip, with many picturesque routes to explore. Its mild climate and Mediterranean ambience make it a pleasant place to start a trip, combining nature, culture and breathtaking scenery. Visitors can also discover nearby villages, hiking trails and local attractions before venturing further afield.

Back in Ascona the route leads you from the hectic city centre on small roads to the branchs of the valley Centovalli. Here you have to face one short uphill before visiting sleepy villages. The route then brings you on an easy path back to Losone.

Day 4 Into the Maggia Valley 20 km

More than 50 kilometres the river Maggia runs through the alps before finally flowing into the Lago Maggiore. You go past the waterfall at Monte Brolla until you reach the lovely town Maggia. There you have time for a short break and to visit the chapel Santa Maria with its wonderful frescos.
