Day 1
Own arrival by car or train to Beaune. The charming hotel lies 5 km outside Beaune. Arrival at 6 o’clock and welcome drink. Diner at 7pm. Welcome to Burgundy!
Day 2 Beaune – Dijon 42 km
With the city of wine Beaune at the start, we will follow the wine the whole day long. You are cycling along at one of the most famous wine routs in Burgundy: Aloxe- Burgundy. Corton, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Clos de Vougeot. At the wine tasting in Nuits-Saint-Georges you are enjoying the marvelous drop of Burgundy. But watch out, we still have to cycle a bit till you reach our daily stage Dijon via Gevrey-Chambertin and Marsannay-la-Cote. Dijon, state capital and former hometown of the dukes. A city with many architectural treasures. The famous Mustard “La Moutarde de Dijon “ and the famous currant liqueur „Crême de Cassis “ have their origins here. You visit the ducal palace. Return by bus and cosy finish with a fantastic dinner.
Day 3 Givry – Cluny 49 km
After breakfast we will start the next stage fully motivated. You are get to Givry by bus. Now we are ready to start our cycling trip. Today we are cycling a bit through the Cote d’Or and then through the Saône et Loire departments.
Already Henry IV valued the wine of Givry. You are passing vineyards of famous Grand Crus, leaving then you are leaving the slightly hilly area of the Chalonnais, to get to the middle age village Buxy. Here we admire the atmosphere of this place. Several Romanic churches and castles are on our way. Especially the Chateau Cormatin from the 17th century.
Via Taizé, known by many confessions and strongly visited during the summer, you are reaching the highlight of our today’s stage: Cluny! Once spiritual center of medieval Christianity. Many important political and spiritual impulses had their start in this magnificent monastery complex. Visit of the rests of the complex and then transfer by bus back to the hotel.
Day 4 Chateauneuf – Canal de Bourgogne – Dijon 44 km
We will start with a transfer towards the north to Châteauneuf, with its fort castle from the 15th century which was transformed into a castle. It is just beautiful with its thick walls and mighty towers. From there you cycle through the wonderful landscape of the Auxois. Now you can admire the charming villages and the nature that can only hardly be beaten. You will accompany the Canal de Bourgogne on its way to Dijon. After passing the Lac de Kir, named after the former mayor of Dijon, Felix Kir, you arrive in Dijon. A beautiful day ends with a transfer back to the hotel.
Day 5 Beauner Upstate – Château Rochpot – Beaune 37km
The route today is a bit more demanding. One or another climb is awaiting us. But don’t worry; you can also push the bike. We can admire the gorgeous panorama, responsibly with charming villages. A various landscape where fruity valleys alternate with chain of limestone hills and vineyards. You will pass the beautiful Château Rochepot. It sits enthroned in a majestic manner on a ledge. With its colorful tiles it is just marvelous to visit.
After the pick nick we enjoy the long downhill! We will pass through the southern vineyards of Beaune via Meursault, Pommard back to Beaune. Guided tour through the Hospitz de Beaune. A unique example of Burgundian architecture in the Middle Ages. The roof is one of the highlights with its cultural roof tiles. Beaune is one of the most visited cities in Burgundy – once you’ve came here, you will know why.
Day 6 Beaune – Tournus 59 km
We will start our last cycling day directly by bike from the hotel. We are cycling through the lovely wine landscape of the Cote de Beaune. Afterwards we continue the path on the towpath of the Canal du Centre. During the pick nick next to the canal, you learn more about the highly interesting history of the canal. The destination comes closer and closer. First we reach the Saône and shortly after we are in Tournus, with its Romanic masterpiece, Saint Philibert. Visit of this unique church and stroll around Tournus. Return by bus.
Day 7
After breakfast it is time to say good-bye. „Au revoir et à bientôt“
