Day 1
Arrival in Honfleur.
Day 2 Honfleur 58 km
Today’s cycling day starts with the adventurous crossing over the hanging bridge „Pont de Brotonne“, 50m high and 1280m long. Immediately you are diving into the forest of Bretton. Cycling along the „Route des Chaumières“. Thatched half-timbered houses and farms with apple plantations line the route. It is time for a Cider tasting!
Day 3 Honfleur – Etretat – Honfleur 56 km
Ride to the Fécamp and sightseeing of the famous Trinity abbey, la Abbatiale de la Trinité, which was built by duke Richard I. With 127m height, it is just 3m shorter then Norte Dame de Paris. It is one of the largest churches in France. Besides that the harbor of Frécamp plays an important role. The awesome landscape with its chalk cliffs, with the famous Falaise d’Aval, are a special experience by bike. Maupassant compared this miracle of nature with an elephant that is diving its trunk into the see.
Day 4 Rouen – Jumieges 41 km
The city of saint Audoin is waiting for you in Rouen. The picturesque half-timbered houses, the impressive cathedral, which inspired Monet and the square du Vieux Marché where Jeanne D’Arc was burned are stages of the guided city tour.
Along the Seine, our tour leads us through the various and gorgeous „Route des Abbayes“, besides numerous monasteries. The ruins of the ancient Benedictine monetary Jumièges are very impressive. The visit is a wonderful experience.
Day 5 Honfleur – Port en Bessin 36 km
Honfleur. The picture-perfect haborcity, was ever since the home of many artists and is called the city of museums. We will discover the city, many motifs are waiting to be photographed. During the 100 year war, Honfleur was mainlt distroied. But still one can adimre the beautiful half-timbered houses. Champlain startet his mission here to occupy Canada and to found Quebec. Afterwards you leave Honfleur and cycle through the upstate to the Côte de Grâce and via Cricqueboeuf alongside the sea. The « coast of flowers » is known for the pleasant climate. During the tide the sea retreats up to 1000 m.
Day 6 Port en Bessin – Landing Beaches 44 km
Today we will see the beaches of landing. A wonderful coastal landscape builds the background for this historic area of the Normandy. Here the battle of Normandy. At nighttime of 5th to the 6th of June 1944 3 Devisions of paratroopers were landing at the beaches. Later they brang 135.000 soldiers and 20.000 vihicles at 5 of the beaches. Extensive visit and explanation during your cycling alongside this history-charged area. We will stop at a soldier cemetery. You will leave Normandy with many impressions that will accompany you for some time.
