Description

This tour, specially created with short itineraries from 32 to 47 km per day, is ideal for families. Fertile Green valleys, castles and bastides, fortified villages, gently meandering rivers, lush pastures, wines, walnuts, geese for foie gras and the warm southern sun – this is Dordogne!

Day by day

Day 1 Arrival in Souillac

Once at your hotel you can take some time to visit the Benedictine monastery from the 12th century. See the remarkable abbey-church with fine carvings, and a statue of the prophet Isaiah, a masterpiece of the Romanesque art.

Day 2 Souillac – Saint Sozy 22 km

Along the river Dordogne, you can admire the castles of la Treyne and Belcastel, visit the famous « grottes de Lacave », and discover charming villages.

Day 3 Saint Sozy – Carennac 22km

This easy trip along the riverside of the Dordogne will lead you up to the brown roofs of Carennac, considered among the most beautiful villages of France.

Day 4 Around Carennac 20 to 30km

The valley of the river Dordogne in Quercy shows many different landscapes and richness of patrimony: Castles of Castelnau and Montal, Grottes of Presque considered by Prince Henri d’Orleans as « the jewel in Europe’s crown », and picturesque villages of Autoire and Saint Céré.

Day 5 Carennac – Rocamadour 30 km

After leaving the valley, you can descend into the very heart of the earth: the gouffre de Padirac. The visit is breathtaking. Then you will cycle through the ‘Parc Natural of Causses du Quercy’ towards the marvellous Rocamadour.

Day 6 Around Rocamadour 20 to 30 km

Todays trip takes you to the religious city of Rocamadour, the second most visited place in France. From here, you can also discover the Causse Quercynois and its capital Gramat.

Day 7 Rocamadour – Souillac 27 km

You will cycle along the valley of Ouysse and admire the Moulin de Cougnaguet, before arriving in Calès, village offering a beautiful panorama of the Causses. From here, you go back to the valley of Dordogne back up to Souillac.

Day 8 Departure

End of your trip.

By plane: direct flight from PARIS ORLY to AERODROME DE BRIVE-LAROCHE (BVE) (21 km away from Souillac). The nearest international airports are BORDEAUX, TOULOUSE, MARSEILLE

By train: Arrival station: SOUILLAC
Trains every three hours from Austerlitz station to Souillac station (direct connection or with a connecting train). Takes about 4.45 hours
